McDonald's New Marketing Idea

    McDonald's has been around since 1953. In almost any city, town, state, and even country, you will see McDonald's somewhere. Over the last month or so, they came out with a new meal. It is named "The Saweetie Meal". What exactly is this meal? It is the meal that the rapper/singer "Saweetie" orders from the fast food chain. How and why did she earn a McDonald's meal named after her? It is part of Mcdonald's new marketing tactic to show diversity and that they support diversity among the world. 

    This was a very interesting topic for me because I love the music industry a ton! Plus, who doesn't love a Big Mac? McDonald's supporting equality is a huge part of the value proposition as people are needing everyone they can to step up against racism. A huge food chain will help in a huge way.

    Last summer, McDonald's started creating meals from music artists around the world. Artists such as Travis Scott, J Balvin, and the K-Pop band BTS. Now, the artist Saweetie. These meals have ranged from people from the US, to the other side of the world. Why is this now happening? To bring money in from big musicians? The answer to that is yes, but there is more. The first meal came out very soon after the death of George Floyd. 

    George Floyd was an African- American male who was killed by police brutality. This changed a lot in the world. It affected everyday life from social media to trying to get to work safely. In Portland, Oregon riots broke out making it very unsafe for many people. McDonald's decided to try to take a part in the movement of equality.

    Soon, the Travis Scott meals comes out.

    McDonald's came up with the idea to show they support equality, while also helping their sales. A smart and risky move that would have to be done in a certain way to not upset many people around the world. They decided to use artists from around the world. Which worked.

    The meals that McDonald's and these artists have came out with is brilliant. It helps the artist, the food chain, and it helps people see that no matter where you are from, everyone is equal. An artist from South Korea or an artist from America can have meals and they are unique and loved. Posters, merchandise, even the bags the meal was coming in, are getting sold online for large amounts of money.

    The Saweetie meal is a little different though. She actually went to a McDonald's and served her meals.

    The meal was around the longest and is still being talked about. This shows that people are buying the product for the why and not for what it is. By this point Saweetie is the only female, but also an African- American female. People are catching onto what McDonald's is doing and they love the brand deals that are being brought to the public.

    Equality is a huge issue and topic that is talked about everyday. We see it everyday. We also eat food everyday. Why not support a great cause, a great meal, and great music all at the same time? While McDonald's brings in all of this extra revenue. Which they definitely need right now during the pandemic and the shortage of employees. This was a huge win for McDonald's and they are expected to release more meals with other celebrities. 

    People will always go for things they support and believe in , throwing in a tasty meal is always a bonus!
